Summary

Anything with Superman is always loaded with philosophy。 Superman IS good。 Batman is part of his conscious。 There are no real surprises here, but it is still a great story。 The opportunity to provide commentary on morals and the world at large is taken here with the reliable saint Superman front and center。

One of the most overrated comics in history。 I love Mark Waid, but the only thing I enjoyed here was the art of Alex Ross。 Overall, it's just very, very boring。 One of the most overrated comics in history。 I love Mark Waid, but the only thing I enjoyed here was the art of Alex Ross。 Overall, it's just very, very boring。 。。。more

Beautiful, awe-inspiring art and deep, challenging writing sets this book apart from its contemporaries and places it in the pantheon of the greatest superhero stories ever told。 What it means to be a symbol and what it means to be a leader are two completely different things, and what Superman has to go through to understand that difference gives this story the scope, the tone, and the epic scale of a Greek tragedy。

This is a great story。 The aged heroes, basically the titans or gods of their time, return because the next generation is not holding to their values。 Things get messy, emotional conflict and moral dilemmas are a thing。 We see what is happening through the eyes of our narrator, a normal human being spirited around to witness and judge。 Having that humanity, normal humanity, as perspective is interesting。 I enjoyed how it played out and ended, and the art is wonderful。 And the introduction mentio This is a great story。 The aged heroes, basically the titans or gods of their time, return because the next generation is not holding to their values。 Things get messy, emotional conflict and moral dilemmas are a thing。 We see what is happening through the eyes of our narrator, a normal human being spirited around to witness and judge。 Having that humanity, normal humanity, as perspective is interesting。 I enjoyed how it played out and ended, and the art is wonderful。 And the introduction mentioned a novel version, so now I need to find that, too。 。。。more

Good story, hampered by sexualization of female characters, as is so often the norm in superhero comics。 the apparent thong/loincloth combo in Diana's outfit and the artist's flat-out refusal to show any aged heroines--including a scene where Powergirl's face is in shadow but there's a spotlight on her tits--were both annoying and distracting。 Good story, hampered by sexualization of female characters, as is so often the norm in superhero comics。 the apparent thong/loincloth combo in Diana's outfit and the artist's flat-out refusal to show any aged heroines--including a scene where Powergirl's face is in shadow but there's a spotlight on her tits--were both annoying and distracting。 。。。more

Goddamn you can just stare at Alex Ross' artwork all day he really should have been changing the game back in the 50s。 Kingdom Come would be one of the finest comics made if it wasn't a bit cobbled together from a more ambitious work。 Now I am in no way stating that Ross and Waid stole from the never made "Twilight of the Superheroes" but the similarities are close and it is in some ways a little less ambitious than this lost work。Basically this is Ross' statement on the grim, tight arsed, balle Goddamn you can just stare at Alex Ross' artwork all day he really should have been changing the game back in the 50s。 Kingdom Come would be one of the finest comics made if it wasn't a bit cobbled together from a more ambitious work。 Now I am in no way stating that Ross and Waid stole from the never made "Twilight of the Superheroes" but the similarities are close and it is in some ways a little less ambitious than this lost work。Basically this is Ross' statement on the grim, tight arsed, balled-fist, oh god help me era of 90s gritty superheroes by having them shown to be number one ridiculous looking, two mostly nameless and three shown to have no interest in human life or heroics。 Superman is in exile from the world after seeing citizens support the new generations casual violence。 Batman after years of abuse no longer wears the cowl but patrols Gotham as a police state weaponizing the city itself。 Wonder Woman has been banished, The Flash creates a safe state through never stopping (interestingly Ross and Waid use the Jay Garrick version with the dork hat) and Green Lantern waits in a fortress powered by the ring (hehehe)。 The world is ont he brink of collapse where the superhumans have lost all humanity and no regard for saving the world or lives matters anymore, instead they have constant battles making the public feel powerless, our narrator is Norman McCay an old preacher who is linked to The Spectre who is waiting for the end of days and requires Norman's prophetic dreams to guide him。 And basically we follow the struggle of superhumans allied to Superman who wish to return the world to a Golden Age of heroics when the new breed does not wish to change and they are willing to take benevolent fascism to do so。 Humans wishing to accelerate the conflict lead by supreme bastard Lex Luthor and Batman who has a mix of new heroes that wish to restore the balance but not under the thumb of Superman。 It has a lot of heady ideas about faith and destiny, choice and rule of law and even the very nature of whether free will is worth saving。 It's certainly a great book but unfortunately for Waid he has issues that work best with maybe a few more pages, it's certainly not a bad book in fact it's a brilliant work but it has some repetitive lines from the Bible that if you're reading this you've read a million times over but you can look over so much of it because of how much love is put into the book, particularly in the case of Batman who becomes much more significant as the book goes on。 A really good addition if you like comics and especially if you like them to be more than murderfests that the current movies are showing。 。。。more

A great stand alone series。 I enjoyed the “aging” Of Superman and Batman。 They both looked very handsome & distinguished, with greying temples and slight wrinkles。 Wonder Woman even has some meat on her bones that isn’t just muscle。 It was very enjoyable how the writers tried to incorporate all the various superheroes from the DC universe。 I was especially happy to see Shazam! But the highlight of this book, for me, is when wonder woman puts on her golden eagle armor!!! 🤩✨🌟🦅🗡
